Frontier Markets

Critical Issues

Background:

"Frontier markets", defined as being smaller and less developed than emerging market economies in terms of equity and fixed income markets are thought by many investors to be well-placed to outperform more developed markets in the future. As smaller markets, they tend to be less liquid which may make it difficult to repatriate profits. Several frontier markets suffered very sharp corrections during the financial crisis as losses in other markets led investors to withdraw their funds.
