Asia Outlook: Quantum of Solace

We have revised upward our forecast for Asia on the back of the upgrades to the U.S. and eurozone (EZ) outlooks, and we expect most of the region to gradually rebound after Q1 2012. The region remains highly exposed to all of the major global risks in 2012—EZ deleveraging, China’s property market correction and a geopolitically driven oil price spike—and the upgrade to our forecast could easily prove fleeting. Most of Asia will offer some fiscal support in 2012 to boost domestic demand, while the monetary easing cycle has largely come to an end, with China, India and Australia excepted.
