Canada Outlook: Domestic Demand Yields to External Risks

Consumer spending and business investment have downshifted in the face of persistent external headwinds, but will remain the main growth driver in 2012. Faltering external growth and softer commodity prices will hit demand for Canadian goods and weaken terms of trade. The Bank of Canada (BoC) will remain on hold until mid-2013, maintaining a low-rate environment to help counterbalance weaker demand and fiscal austerity measures.
