Chile Outlook: On Cruise Control
Activity should continue normalizing throughout 2012 despite upward growth surprises early in the year. Consumption and investment should remain the key sources of growth, but will be capped by different forces. Medium-term inflation expectations remain stable despite headline inflation running above the central bank’s target range. Inflation should converge towards the midpoint target in 2013, although during 2012 a higher reading is expected. We are changing our monetary policy view to a neutral stance, and expect Chile to remain on hold throughout the year, as inflation remains elevated.
