Emerging Europe and CIS Outlook Update: Weaker Growth Across the Region

Economic growth across the region will be weaker than previously forecast. As advanced economies fall into recession, export-led recoveries will stall. Even economies that are more domestically driven will not be immune to the global slowdown. Policy space is limited for most economies in the region as weaker growth will make fiscal targets more challenging to meet, will raise financing costs and could test investor confidence. Large balance sheet mismatches, a lack of investor confidence and in some case above-target inflation imply limited room for monetary easing in the region.
