Indonesia Outlook: Not Quite Superman
Exports have emerged as a major growth driver for Indonesia in recent quarters, which has rendered the economy more vulnerable to a global growth slowdown than was the case in 2008-09. Investment growth in particular has been disappointing and is unlikely to get much better in the near term, given weakening growth in developed markets (DMs) and the failure of both parliament and the government to improve investment conditions, notably for infrastructure. Bank Indonesia will continue to support growth through financial market stabilization efforts and easier monetary policy.
