RGE's Q1 2010 Iraq Outlook

Iraq’s economic prospects have brightened from early 2009 as oil revenues pick up and foreign oil companies rush to manage oil resources, but security and political concerns make for a fragile outlook. Tight government finances have deferred some needed infrastructure investment. The number of attacks and fatalities has risen in recent months as U.S. troops withdraw. Moreover, key legislation remains stalled in parliament. General elections, scheduled for March 2010, will provide a source of uncertainty, particularly given that many candidates have been disqualified.
