RGE's Q2 2010 Kazakhstan Outlook

External demand has been a major growth driver, as has government stimulus, while domestic private demand remains weaker. A recovery in the manufacturing and mining sector was already underway in H2 2009 in response to a pickup in global demand and this recovery was more pronounced in the final quarter, when agricultural output boomed. The stabilization and slow improvement of the financial sector will help stabilize the construction sector, which has been supported by government contracts, but the successful completion of bank debt restructuring and resumption of credit growth is a precondition for strong private sector growth. Agricultural output was also stronger, helped by weather conditions, while real income and wage growth provided a support to consumption. Spurred by wage hikes, inflation will begin to pick up later in year, which might bring some monetary tightening.
