RGE Q1 2010 Pakistan Outlook

Domestic violence, security risks and political instability have severely undermined economic activity in Pakistan, weighing down on domestic demand and capital inflows. Going forward, continued frictions between the government and opposition parties, security threats, tighter economic policies under the IMF loan conditions, and inadequate foreign aid will constrain Pakistan from achieving the 6%-7% growth rates of recent years. Consumer spending will weaken further in 2010 due to high inflation, job losses, uncertainty about remittance inflows and security risks.
