Poland Outlook: Resilient, but Only for So Long

Strong private consumption, which insulated the economy in 2008-09, will continue to drive growth in 2012, albeit at a slower pace. Weaker EU structural fund transfers will curtail public investment, while firms will shelve expansion plans in the face of tighter credit conditions, the uncertain economic outlook and higher taxes. Tighter fiscal policy, along with slowing economic activity, will open the space for monetary easing next year, assuming pressure on the zloty eases.
