Romania Outlook: Good News, Bad News
Despite recent signs of economic stabilization, a worsening outlook for the eurozone (EZ) will shift exports, the engine of Romania’s tentative recovery, into reverse. Capital requirements for EZ parent banks will feed through to the Romanian economy via tighter lending conditions and interrupt the tentative credit recovery. More conservative fiscal target and slowing inflation will likely convince Romania’s central bank to further lower the policy rate after a surprise cut to 6.25% in November.
