Emerging Europe and CIS Outlook Update: Recovery Takes Root

The region’s growth will become more broad-based and entrenched but remain below-trend, with Turkey still the star, set for another year of above-trend growth. Economic recovery continues to rely on the eurozone core’s demand for exports, as weak credit growth and excess spare capacity remain headwinds. Inflationary pressures have prompted a wide range of policy responses, as central banks face a tradeoff between meeting inflation targets and supporting domestic demand.
