Saudi Arabia Outlook: Pumping While the Sun Still Shines

A buyers strike on Iranian crude has allowed Saudi Arabia to dial up oil production, boosting economic growth, until global demand destruction rears its ugly head later in 2012. High oil prices and output provide space for more stimulus, directly and through the banking system. Government spending is feeding through to consumption, via wage hikes and transfers, as well as manufacturing, supporting domestic demand. Inflation lurks on the horizon, with supply constraints, credit growth and wages exerting upward pressure, but price controls and macro measures should keep it in check.
