Turkey Outlook Update: Sharper Slowdown Ahead

The surprisingly strong Q3 data means that the forthcoming drop in growth will start from a greater height. We expect the Central Bank of Turkey (CBT) to stick to its flexible policy mix, keeping the interest corridor wide, in order to rein in inflation, dampen credit growth and stabilize the lira. However, given slowing domestic demand and the strong external headwinds, the bank will refrain from outright policy cuts for as long as possible.
