Latin America Outlook: A Renewed Domestic Focus

As risks to the global economy recede and activity stabilizes, the outlook for Latin America (LatAm) becomes brighter. Our 2013 projections have improved significantly due to our views on the eurozone (EZ) and Brazil. Inflation will stay at uncomfortably high levels in several countries throughout 2012. Although the headline rate will continue to be affected by transitory forces, upwardly trending core inflation could become a matter for concern. Policy makers have shifted toward a more neutral stance and are less pessimistic about the medium-term outlook for the global economy. Capital flows have returned to the region as short-term downside risks have diminished, giving way to a new wave of interventions).
