An Obama or Romney-led U.S. presidency would seek to encourage increased domestic oil and gas production, although Mitt Romney would probably speed up this process by lowering regulatory hurdles. The controversial opening of the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve (ANWR) to drilling, favored by Romney, would not make it through a likely gridlocked (once again) Congress. Domestic tight oil production growth from shale will continue to outpace onshore and offshore output growth (for now).
